HOT WEATHER ALERT!
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU WALK YOUR DOG EARLY IN THE MORNING OR DURING THE EVENING, AND CHOOSE SOMEWHERE SHADY LIKE A WOODED AREA. DON'T THROW BALLS FOR YOUR DOG OR ENCOURAGE HIM TO RUN AROUND. CARRY A BOTTLE OF WATER AND A BOWL SO THAT YOUR DOG CAN HAVE A DRINK DURING THE WALK. REMEMBER THAT PAVEMENTS GET BURNING HOT ON REALLY HOT DAYS AND YOUR DOG'S PAWS CAN EASILY GET SCORCHED IF YOU ROAD WALK HIM WHEN THE SUN HAS BEEN ON THE PAVEMENTS FOR HOURS.
IF YOU REALLY DO HAVE TO TAKE YOUR DOG OUT IN THE CAR IN HOT WEATHER, TRY TO OPEN THE CAR UP FOR TEN MINUTES BEFORE YOUR DOG GETS IN SO THAT THE INSIDE OF THE CAR HAS A CHANCE TO COOL DOWN A BIT. ALWAYS TAKE A LARGE BOTTLE OF WATER WITH YOU FOR THE DOG AND MAKE SURE HE HAS ACCESS TO A DRINK VERY FREQUENTLY. DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS WOUND DOWN OR THE AIRCON ON FULL. IT'S SAFEST TO LEAVE YOUR DOG AT HOME - BEING BORED IS BETTER THAN BEING DEAD!
The KCAI gold badge is awarded to instructors who have passed the Kennel Club Accreditation, which is run on similar lines to an NVQ and is accredited by City & Guilds. Only instructors who have been teaching classes for a minimum of five years can apply for Kennel Club Accreditation, and there is a rigorous assessment process. It is therefore a guarantee of good quality teaching and an assurance that up-to-date techniques are being taught from a sound knowledge base, in accordance with Kennel Club best practice and their own Code of Conduct for Instructors.
The fantastic Gypton Dog School Display Team after performing at this year's Coney Hall Village Fair on 12th May
On Friday 23rd March 2018, Lorraine Carney from the KCAI office at the Kennel Club in London came along to the Gypton Dog School to present Jenny with an updated Accreditation Certificate, reflecting the endorsement from City & Guilds for the KCAI scheme. Jenny gained her accreditation originally in 2007 when the scheme was quite new, and City & Guilds had not been involved at that time. The new certificate was presented to Jenny while the Advanced Class members were present and able to share in the small ceremony.
The Gypton Dog School offers training classes and advice for owners of pet dogs, from the age of 3 months upwards.
Our structured puppy courses concentrate on life skills for puppies as they grow up, including advice on food and nutrition, the law relating to dog owners, handling and grooming, nuisance behaviours and how to avoid them, and all basic obedience exercises such as Sit, Lie Down and Come when Called. The courses, which also include some fun elements such as body awareness and tricks, can be followed by ongoing training for young dogs in our Adolescent Classes.
The training methods we teach are positive and motivational, using reward-based techniques within a framework of fair discipline and effective leadership.
